Circling is a form of social meditation, or I'd like to call it mediSAYtion, where we gather as a group to share our honest experience from moment to moment. That means we don’t tell stories of the past, unless they’re very alive in your body that it becomes your current reality; we also don’t give each other advice, because if we really stay present with what is, nothing needs to be fixed. Often, interestingly, change happens by itself when we stop forcing it.
Circling is thus different from psychotherapy (past-focused) or coaching (future-oriented). It’s grounded in the present. It’s an invitation to dive into the richness of reality in a mindful and connecting way.
Why bother meditating with people?
When meditating alone, we may have some amazing transcendental experiences, yet after those ecstatic moments, we may still find it frustratingly hard to deal with people in our mundane life. Social interaction may still feel scary, and we can still have judgments towards others, only that now we learn to suppress them so that we’re more “enlightened”. We may also blame ourselves for not being able to “stay neutral” when we’re triggered, without realizing that we are, after all, just human.
By sharing our unfiltered selves in Circling, many of us will for the first time get to experience that all our thoughts and feelings are welcome, even the “ugly” ones. And sure, one can get uncomfortable or even triggered by others, but in Circling we don’t have to choose between self and others, or between freedom and connection. We will have them both.
In this way, we grow, both in awareness and in trust.
Plus, we’ll not just have touchy-feely stuff all the time; where there’s authenticity and aliveness, there's bound to be lots of fun as well!
What should I prepare?
Nothing but curiosity, really.
You don't have to be anything other than your most authentic self.
Where can I experience it?
I founded a platform called Circling China, which for now only offers sessions in Chinese.
I also facilitate in-person English-speaking Circling events in Amsterdam.
Please click here to subscribe to my mailing list if you want to be updated as soon as the next Circling event is on.
For one-on-one Circling experiences, book a free intake session with me, where I'll use a lot of Circling skills.
Or write me an email to explore more possibilities of collaboration.
